Your Mom Was Pro Life.
There are a lot of articles, sites, etc on pro-life subjects. I have just a few things to say here.
Human life isn’t the point. We are not the purpose for the universe. We are a player in God’s purpose of glorifying Himself. God could have made us all rats, but He chose to make us human, in His image.
Therefore, human life is valuable only because of God, because of the value He placed on us when He sent His only Son to be beaten, humiliated, mocked, spit upon, tortured, and killed…for you. For me. And then by raising from the dead, He conquered death so we can live with Him.
Without God, without His sacrifice, it wouldn’t matter if babies were killed or not. If God didn’t value us, we would have no value. If there was no God, if there was no Bible with the commandment “thou shalt not murder” (yes, it reads “thou shalt not kill” in some translations but that isn’t right in English…long story), if evolution was true (because if it was, we’re all animals), it wouldn’t be wrong to kill babies. Or old people (euthanasia).
Someone once said, “[my friend] and I are going to commit suicide when we turn 30 because by the time a person reaches their optimum they just go downhill after that and become a burden to society. I don’t think people should be allowed to live beyond 30.” I wonder if she ever thinks about that anymore. (She’s still alive, by the way.) In America, we emphasize youth over age. Age should bring wisdom (as long as someone is seeking God). Instead, we put value on the stupidity of youth. Youth has the advantage of strength, but needs the wise teaching of an older person to put the strength to good use and learn how to be wise.
The Bible also says to take care of the widows and orphans, the poor and downtrodden, etc. So-called mentally retarded people fall into that category. With our wonderful technology, we can determine in utero whether or not the baby will be “socially acceptable” (in this be-politically-correct-or-else culture) and kill them if they are deemed to be socially unacceptable.
Hmm…remind you of anything?
Reminds me of animals! Many animals abandon their deformed and/or small babies, which die without any care. Why? Because they are animals. If evolution is true, and we are nothing but animals, it wouldn’t matter. But it isn’t, and we aren’t. We are humans created in God’s image, for God’s purpose.
All that having been said, take a look at this video:
He was born severely disabled: blind, autistic, and he has trouble controlling his muscles. He was born in 1951. Had he been conceived in the last few years, his mother probably would have been advised to abort (i.e. kill) him because he would be useless. But look what he can do! And human life, in God’s eyes, is never useless.
And remember…your mom was prolife.
(P.S. and yeah that got a lot longer than I had intended!)

Wow, Ann. You really did well with this article. So profound and inspiring. Thank you. I am going to stumble this. Bravo.

Actually, “thou shalt not kill” is the correct interpretation of the Hebrew. It includes all forms of killing, including manslaughter. Obviously, with the command not to kill came the mandate for capital punishment as the penalty for killing (”If man shed the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed”), but the commandment is not limited to intentional illegal murder.
…and it looks like you have broken code in your blog; it won’t let me submit a duplicate comment even if it’s only a duplicate of a comment it previously wouldn’t let me submit >_>

> the commandment is not limited to intentional illegal murder.
I meant to add that this is a good thing since our society wants to redefine what “murder” is. The point is not the circumstances or the reason — the point is ending a human life, for good reason or bad, intentionally or unintentionally, other than appropriate measures taken by the legal justice system God has put into place.

That was a very well written entry! I like it a lot, it’s really good! I’ve done pro-life walk things and done other things where you hold a poster next to the road (not sure what that is called). I just can’t see how people can murder babies, and ‘old people’ too.
Thank you for doing this entry!
