Tribute To My Dad

Most people’s dads work 40 hour weeks. Mine works 70-80 hours a week.
Most people’s dads have Saturdays and Sundays off. Mine has Sundays and Mondays, but only sometimes.
Most people’s dads see their kids every night. Mine doesn’t always.

Why do I tell you this? To make you feel sorry for me? Hardly. I only want you to know what my Dad does and sacrifices of himself and his time so his family can have food on the table, a shelter to sleep in, and clothes to wear.

My Dad cares about us. If things are wrong (and things inevitably will be), he takes steps to make sure things are righted. Nothing is overlooked as a teaching opportunity. He has a vision, a goal for our family (and our families, and their families, and their families): to serve the Lord in any way we can, starting from home, with our brothers and sisters.

It’s not nice to be disciplined. But my Dad has taken care to lovingly show us where we went wrong, tell us what we can do better next time, and then give us our discipline, and he never disciplines in anger.

He is reliable. I know when he says something that I don’t like, he has a good reason for it. He doesn’t make decisions flippantly. Instead, he weighs the options and decides what would be best for his family.

My Dad is not above joking with us. He likes us, and likes us to be with him. He talks to us, teases us, directs us…and has fun with us! We have so many inside jokes…mostly thanks to my Dad and his sense of humor!

My Dad hates his job. Most men do. But it takes a true man to work said 70-80 hour weeks at a job he hates, and excel at it. Why does he do it? Two reasons:
1. He loves the Lord.
2. He loves us.

What is stronger than love?
The answer is: Nothing.
