What I Believe
In Short
- The earth was created in a literal six days.
- Dinosaurs coexisted with men.
- Some dinosaurs are still alive (and not lizards, turtles, or snakes).
- The earth is the fixed center of the universe (called Geocentricity).
- Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead three days later.
- Everyone is going to hell unless they obey Jesus and repent of their sins.
- The only way to get to Heaven is through Jesus, not by being a “good person”.
In Long
First of all, “believe” means to “put your reliance upon and your confidence in”. Therefore, “believe” is not a “yeah, I think it, great” thing, it’s a “yeah, I think it, but I also put it into practice” thing. Besides that, these are things that should not cause controversy; they are all Bible-based and are fundamentals of Christianity.
God and the Trinity
I believe there is only one God, a holy and just God, who created everything exists in the Godhead of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. 1 Timothy 2:5, 6; 1 Corinthians 8:6, Mark 12:32, Deuteronomy 6:4, 1 John 5:11-13, Colossians 2:9, Romans 8:9, Ephesians 4:4-6, 1 Corinthians 12:3-6, Genesis 1:1 (If Jesus isn’t God, His death and resurrection wouldn’t mean anything and the Bible would be null and void because it clearly states Jesus is God. See also the first chapter of the gospel of John.)
Depravity
I believe all men are wicked sinners, born into wickedness and sin, and wicked of heart, worthy only of eternal condemnation, and that through our own strength we can never achieve righteousness. Romans 3:23, Genesis 6:5, Psalms 51:5 I believe God will justly judge every man for the deeds done in the flesh. Ezekiel 24:14, 2 Corinthians 5:10, Matthew 25:31-46
Atonement
I believe Jesus Christ (being fully man and fully God, born of a virgin) rose from the dead on the third day, and that through Him, those who believe in Him have eternal life. John 1:14, 3:15-17, 3:36, 10:25, 26, 20:31; 1 John 5:11-13, Acts 1:9-11, 1 Corinthians 15:3-8, Luke 1:27-35 I believe everyone who does not believe and repent are condemned. Revelation 20:13-15, 21:9-27
Our Response
I believe our proper response to Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice is to have our face at His feet, giving Him glory. Revelation 14:6,7; Psalms 115:1 We should be so enamored with Him, that all the little things don’t matter. Colossians 3:1-11 I believe baptism is a Believer’s decision to become identified with Jesus Christ, and should be done (in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit) because Jesus said so (Matthew 28:19), but baptism isn’t necessary for salvation. Baptism is the public confession of your faith in Jesus Christ. Matthew 10:32, 33
Other Key Beliefs
I believe “all Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16, 17
I do not believe that only the King James Bible is the one to use, or only this Bible or only that Bible, and a very silly thing for brothers and sisters in Christ to squabble over. As long as the translator (to the best of his abilities) translated as accurately as he could, that is a version to use. Paraphrase versions, thought-for-thought versions, or anything like that were translated like that on purpose, and therefore should not be used. The writer wasn’t trying to translate accurately; he was translating what he thought God meant. And since God said exactly what He wanted said, these translations are worthless.
The purpose of life is to glorify God. 1 Peter 4:11, 1 Corinthians 10:31, 1 Corinthians 6:20 and many more.
You know what is strange? What it...
Anne,
On your “what I believe” page you seem to believe only in things that the Bible tells you. How do you know that this is the right way to get your beliefs? I know that faith means believing something that can’t be proven…doesn’t that make you a little suspisious that maybe, just maybe you could be believing in something that has value, but might not be the word of God?
